![]() I assume you were trying to do some "I can do it flawlessly so your entire argument is wrong" flex, but you just gave my point footage as to exactly what is wrong. No other fight in Black Mesa felt like that, even with the swarms of suspiciously accurate soldiers that storm the entrance in Questionable Ethics. Anything LESS than perfect is death or less than ten health left. Even when you pull the entire fight off "perfectly" you still come out absolutely crippled. You finished the fight with 54 health and 0 shields, which is my exact point. Memorizing an entire level is never a sign of good design, that's exactly why games like Cat Mario do it, because its unfair and cruel.Īnd if you noticed, even with your optimized strategy, the Controllers still took out half your health. It shouldn't be required to memorize it in the first place. "I Wanna Be the Guy" and "Cat Mario" are easy if you already know every single thing that's going to happen. Knowing the entire level from the very beginning is not an indicator of difficulty. Originally posted by Just Chill: Did it change since v0.0.1? Please tone it down a LOT when you release Xen. The lack of cover, the teleporter legs that actively hinder your evasive jumps, the Vortigaunt aimbotting, the Houndeyes making it impossible to see, the Controller AOE and completely unecessary homing blast, along with the two Brutes that teleport directly in front of the ramp when the teleporter is ready make surviving the fight 100% RNG based. I love the entire rest of this game, and was thoroughly having a blast from start, all the way until the VERY finish where that teleporter just left an awful taste of bile in my mouth. If I got through that apocalyptic mess and then died to a single headcrab because I had only 2 health left I would be absolutely furious. If the enemy density and variety stays the same after the Xen update hits (and it definitely shouldn't), you NEED to teleport to a safe area with more than enough health and armor to fully restore yourself. The only truly positive thing I can say is that there aren't any Bullsquids, because the last thing that orgy of death needed was shotgun spit causing even more problems. You can't play keepaway from Houndeyes while also breaking line of sight from Vortigaunts AND trying to avoid the homing missles from Controllers. Adding in all the other Xen aliens might seem like a good idea at first, but there's a reason they were never like this in the base game. When the portal was finally ready I was actually being permanently stunlocked into a corner because I had 20 enemies firing at me at the same time in such rapid succession I couldn't escape.Įven for what is now a "final battle", it's still too crazy. The constant shaking from their attacks makes what little attacking was actually possible completely impossible because now you can't aim, see properly, jump properly, or dodge properly while the room is FLOODING with enemies. The Vortigaunts were always borderline aimbotters, the AOE on the Controllers are impossible to dodge fully, and the Houndeyes are the final topping on the Unecessary Cake. Long Jumping away from them is much harder than it should be because the legs of the machine and the fence posts actively block you, so that without pinpoint precision you smack into them and lose momentum, causing you to eat an attack from all 15 enemies in the room at the same time. They also fire some sort of tracking orb which is nearly 4x the normal size, which is completely unecessary overkill. ![]() These controllers seem even worse, as even when I am moving nonstop I am constantly and rapidly losing both health and armor. The controllers in the original were already pretty annoying, as they fired off constantly volleys of orbs. The enemy density in the teleporter room is absolutely asanine levels of unforgiving. ![]() I was going for the Rare Specimen achievement, but that doesn't impact what I'm about to say because I had left the hat on the ground to pick up when I teleported. ![]() So in commemeration of the 20th Half Life anniversary, I've been doing playthroughs of all the Half Life games, and right now I just finished Black Mesa. ![]()
